Welcome to the Dade Elementary Media Center

Students and parents are always welcome in the DES Media Center.

Box Tops - We will continue to collect box tops this year; however, our incentive program has changed.  We will no longer be having the media moola store this year.  Instead of earning moola for every box top collected, students will be entered into a prize drawing.  For every 10 box tops collected, students will be intered into a drawing for a $100 Walmart gift card.  (For example, if a student turns in 30 box tops his or her name will be entered into the drawing 3 times.  Drawings will be held in December and May.  Box tops must be attached to the entry form provided by Mrs. Snay in order to be eligible for the drawing.  Entry forms will be sent home periodically and can also be picked up in the media center or printed from the "Forms" link at the top of the DES media center webpage.  There will be a classroom contest as well.  The classroom that turns in the most boxtops each semester will win a $100 Walmart gift card to be spent on items for the classroom.

Bookmarks - The media center will be selling bookmarks & school supplies throughout the school year.  Items will range in price from $0.25 - $5.00.

Scholastic Book Fair - We will be having a Scholastic Book Fair in November right before Thanksgiving Break.

All students in K - 5 will visit the media center with their class at least once a week.  During their media block time they will participate in a variety of activities that may include : library skills lessons, book read-a-louds, check outs, computer time, etc..

Kindergarteners do not check out books from the media center during their block time but after Christmas some Kindergarten teachers will allow select students to check out books.

Grades 1 - 5 - Will be allowed to check out one book at at time.  Students must return their book in order to check out another book.

Parents - Parents are  welcome to check out books from the media center.  There is no limit on the number of books that a parent can check out.

There is a 2 week loan period for all books.  We do not charge late fees; however, overdue notices will be sent home periodically just for information.  These notices will have prices listed on them.  This is the price that it would cost to replace the book if it were lost or destroyed.  If the book(s) are returned this fee does not apply. The purpose of these notices is to help you keep tabs on the books that your child has checked out so that you do not end up having to pay for lost books at the end of the school year.
